Composite rebars

Composite rebars - description and properties

Composite Rebars – Modern Alternative to Steel Reinforcement

Today, reinforced concrete is used in virtually every area of infrastructure construction. These structures rely on a combination of steel and concrete — or increasingly, composite rebars and concrete — materials that complement each other.

  • Concrete handles compressive stress
  • Steel handles tensile stress

However, there's one major flaw: steel is vulnerable to corrosion. When exposed to moisture, chemical contaminants, or carbonation, steel reinforcement begins to corrode. This process is almost inevitable and leads to:

  • The development of internal stress
  • Cracking and chipping of the concrete surface
  • Full exposure of the steel to the environment
  • Loss of structural strength and potential failure

✅ Why Choose Composite Rebars?

  • 🛡️ Corrosion Resistance: No rust, even in harsh chemical or wet conditions
  • 💰 Lower Costs: No anti-corrosion coatings needed, no long-term repair costs
  • 🛠️ Durability: Decades of reliable performance without degradation
  • 🔧 Maintenance-Free: No protective treatments necessary
  • 🌍 Eco-Friendly: Long lifespan and low environmental impact

🏗️ Innovation in Reinforcement Technology

Using composite rebars means embracing modern, economical, and maintenance-free construction. They’re ideal not only for reinforcing concrete but also for reducing lifetime building costs.

Composite rebars - Properties

Properties of our composite reinforced bars allow for:

  • reduction of the weight of a structure by use of a smaller diameter of reinforced bars, which are characterised by 2.5 times greater tensile strength than regular or stainless steel
  • considerable decrease of thickness of concrete, which reduces costs of embedding, transport and stocking of bars at a construction site
  • considerable savings as compared to steel reinforcement, owing to larger distances between bars
  • reduction of costs owing to easy machining and possible use in cut and drilled elements
  • resistance of difficult atmospheric conditions and increased durability owing to high chemical and corrosive resistance
  • simplification of the construction process owing to electrostatic, electrical and magnetic neutrality

TROKOTEX Composite Rebars – Advanced Manufacturing Process

TROKOTEX composite bars are produced using the advanced pultrusion process, which involves continuously pulling chemical fiber strands (rovings) through machinery that saturates them with a thermosetting resin, shapes the desired cross-section, and then hardens the binders.

The result is a high-performance composite material composed of numerous parallel fibers, fully embedded in a polymer matrix based on epoxy resin. An external fiber overwrap is applied during forming, creating a spiral rib structure on the surface of the bar. This greatly enhances adhesion to concrete, functioning similarly to the ribbed surface of traditional steel reinforcement bars.

Manufacturing Location

All TROKOTEX composite rebars are manufactured at our production facility in Toruń, Poland.
